Approximately 30 years' experience as a professor teaching employment law, labor law, employment discrimination, contracts and related courses. Founding Director of law school's Institute for Law and the Workplace, a national center for research, training and reflection on the law governing the workplace. Has taught, lectured and/or written extensively on Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, unemployment compensation, whistleblower protection statutes and anti-retaliation statutes. Appointed by President Obama in Oct. 2009 to be a Member of the Federal Service Impasses Panel for a term that runs through 2014. Has served since 1995 as hearing officer for Chicago Commission on Human Relations, adjudicating cases of discrimination based on race, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation and source of income in employment, housing and public accommodations. Served as special hearing officer for Illinois Human Rights Commission in case of race and disability discrimination. Served as Reporter for Association of Labor Relations Agencies Neutrality Project, producing a treatise on agency impartiality (2003-2008). Previously served as an independent hearing officer for Illinois State Board of Education, adjudicating disputes under Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act. Has served since 1996 as Co-editor of Employee Rights & Employment Policy Journal, the only faculty-edited, peer-reviewed employment law journal in the U.S. Contributed material on uses of statistics to major "Hornbook" on Employment Discrimination Law and chapters on age discrimination in employment to multi-volume treatise on Age Discrimination. Served as consultant to Illinois State, Local and Educational Labor Relations Boards and drafted regulations which implemented Illinois public sector labor relations acts.
